APPLICATION FOR THE EXAMINATION AND TESTING BY WRc-NSF OF A
WATER FITTING FOR WRAS PRODUCT APPROVAL
The Water Regulations Advisory Scheme approves water fitting and materials that meet the requirements of the
Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 in England and Wales. The Scottish Water Byelaws 2004 and the
Water Regulations in Northern Ireland. For water fittings, the essential requirements of the regulations are that all
water fittings they must not waste, misuse, unduly consume or contaminate the water supply. To assess this,
fittings are compared with the performance requirements of the Regulators' Specification and other relevant
requirements of the Regulations. For WRAS Approval of non-metallic materials intended for contact with water
which is required to be wholesome, their effects on water quality must comply with British Standard 6920.
WRAS approval is granted by representatives of the Water Suppliers to fittings and materials that have been
examined and found to satisfy the requirements of the Scheme.

offers a step-by-step guide to the approval process, in addition to providing information about the full range of
services offered by WRAS.
WRAS approval will only be granted to products that fully satisfy the scheme's requirements, further details of
which can be viewed on the website.
All applications for WRAS Approval must include the following: -

- A complete application form.
(please ensure you fill in every section, including the declaration of materials in Appendix A, indicating 'not
applicable' if appropriate) - General assembly drawings of the product showing all water contact components / water pathways.
- Details of any identification marks found on the products which are to be approved.
- Installation manuals, where applicable, for all items relating to the application.
- Photographs of the product and identification marks (This is currently optional)
(Please be aware that failure to include any of the items listed above may result in a delay when processing your
application.)
In addition to the above requirements product catalogues, product information manuals and other documentation
concerning the product should also be submitted where applicable.
Successful applicants will be sent a certificate and approval letter, which provides important information including
any special conditions that must be met before the product can be legally installed. Water Fittings and Materials
that have been granted approval by the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme are listed in the Scheme's Water
Fittings and Materials Directory (avaliable free-of-charge on line at www.wras.co.uk/Directory)
