John Joined WRc in 1977 as a water treatment engineer and gained valuable experience in a wide range of water and sewage treatment processes and their efficacy for the removal of organic compounds from water. In 1981 John transferred to the Analytical Chemistry section, gaining experience of an extensive range of analytical instrumentation and techniques. He was involved with the introduction of many new methods into the section, and became Team Leader of the Inorganic Analysis section in 1991, supervising a team of graduate analytical chemists specialising in environmental analysis. In anticipation of the introduction of the Landfill Directive legislation, John specialised in the introduction, evaluation and validation of the complete range of leaching tests required in the laboratory to enable WRc-NSF to provide a comprehensive waste characterisation service to a diverse range of major industrial waste producers and waste disposal/landfill operators. John is currently Analytical Laboratory Manager of WRc-NSF, managing a small team of analysts providing a UKAS accredited analytical service to WRc-NSF Materials Testing and a diverse range of external clients. John is a member of BSi Committee EH/4/3 Chemical Methods and Soil Characterisation, and Standing Committee of Analysts WG5 where he has been involved in the production of several ‘Blue Book’ methods.
