Dr Huw James joined WRc in 1974 and has considerable experience of the analysis of trace organic compounds using mass spectrometry. His work has involved the identification and quantification of trace organics in various matrices including groundwaters, river waters, drinking waters, effluents, soils, sediments, sludges and leachates from materials in contact with drinking water. He has also organised inter-laboratory performance testing of various analytical methods and drafted methods and protocols to MEWAM (“Blue Book”) and BSi formats.

He has managed major projects for the Environment Agency, The Drinking Water Inspectorate, UK Water Industry Research Ltd., DEFRA (and its predecessors DETR and DoE), the European Commission and various industrial companies.

He is currently a member of the UK Main Committee of the Standing committee of Analysts and Convenor of AHG7 (GCMS) of CEN TC/164 WG3 (Water Supply - Materials in contact with drinking water).
