Certification - WRAS Approvals Process

Steps to WRAS Approval

The WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) Scheme assesses water products to ensure that they do not waste, misuse, undue consume or contaminate the water supply.
It is important to remember that WRAS approval consists of two requirements the first being:
  • Non-metallic materials in contact with the water (paint, grease, o rings gaskets etc) must comply with BS 6920 and the supplier of the material must be able to supply you with the WRAS approval number for the material or a test report to BS 6920 from one of the approved test labs. (Water Fittings and Materials Directory, Materials Section)
  • The product must meet the mechanical requirements as stipulated in the Regulators Specifications.
The applications form for WRAS approval (Form F2) can found on the following web page and must be completed and returned to the Administration staff along with details of your product.
The following is a simplified version of the procedures to gain WRAS approval.
  1. Completed application form received by Administration staff.
  2. Administration staff identify if all the details are OK (materials etc) and that we have enough information to proceed with the approval.
  3. Administration staff request samples to be sent to WRC-NSF Ltd and send invoice to applicant.
  4. Receive test samples
  5. Receive payment
  6. The file is sent to the test house for testing
  7. Testing undertaken
  8. Test report completed.
  9. UK water Industry agree that the product meets the WRAS requirements (every 8 weeks)
  10. Approval letter and certificate sent to applicant
  11. Product listed on website for 5 years
Each step must be completed before the next step is started.

Please. do not send valves/product with the application forms.
