Barrier Pipe Testing

In response to customer requests our Materials Testing Laboratory has developed and installed new rigs for evaluating aluminium barrier pipe intended for potable water supply through contaminated land against the requirements of the new Water Industry Specification, WIS 4-32-19 Appendix B. This is to demonstrate that pipe and fitting combinations can adequately resist the ingress of hydrocarbon contamination. The rig allows the pipe and fitting to be held such that the pipe is filled with test water and is then surrounded by vapour from a synthetic petroleum fluid. At the end of the test period (2 months) the test water from the pipe is submitted for odour and flavour test and chemical analysis for hydrocarbons.
