Steps to getting your product WRAS approved

Obtain audit testing for your product

Quality Service

The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 are designed for the prevention of waste, undue consumption, misuse or contamination of the drinking water. The WRAS specifies tests to determine whether products used on consumer premises conform to the Regulations. For non-metallic products the WRAS uses the methods and criteria in BS6920:2000.

WRc-NSF is a WRAS accredited test laboratory and has UKAS accreditation for the BS6920 tests.

The BS6920 tests that WRAS require are:
Odour and flavour of water in contact with the material
Appearance of water in contact with the material
Growth of aquatic micro-organisms on the material
Extraction of substances that may be of concern to public health
   Extraction of metals.

Audit testing for a material or product, must be carried out every five years and this can be done by WRc-NSF. Companies with listings will be reminded when an audit test is due.

Comprehensive Test Facilities

WRc-NSF has the capability to test all the products that WRAS approves. Specialist facilities to prepare samples for site-applied products are available.

WRc-NSF can carry out hot water tests as required by WRAS where applicable.

Regular Program of Testing

Some of the BS 6920 tests can take up to eight weeks to complete, so it is important that the tests on your products are started as soon as possible. We have a regular programme of testing, so you can rely on our delivery date for receiving your results.

Advice on the Testing of Your Product

WRc-NSF can carry out preliminary tests to 'screen' new products before proceeding with BS 6920 testing. We can also advise on cost effective strategies and on gaining other approvals, both in the UK and abroad.
