| WRAS Approvals ProcessSteps to WRAS Mechanical Approval Water Regulation Advisory Scheme (WRAS) Approvals Process This page explains the 4-Stage process for obtaining WRAS approval for your product and the assistance we provide to help you do this. The Application Form for obtaining WRAS approval is available online and is called the Fittings (F2) Application Form. You must complete a F2 Form and submit it to the WRc-NSF Project Management Team, together with the required supporting information (detailed in the F2 WRAS Application Form) to start your WRAS approval. The WRc-NSF Project Management Team will provide you with advice and assistance in completing the F2 WRAS Application Form. WRAS assesses the compliance of water fittings with UK Water Regulations to ensure that they do not waste, misuse, cause undue consumption or contaminate the water supply. It is important to understand that WRAS approval consists of two requirements covering non-metallic materials in contact with water and mechanical performance: - Non-metallic materials in contact with the water (paint, grease, plastics, rubbers, etc) must comply with British Standard 6920 (BS 6920). The supplier of each material must be able to supply you with the WRAS approval number from the (Water Fittings and Materials Directory, Materials Section) or a test report to BS 6920 from one of the approved test labs otherwise testing of the material will be required.
- The product must meet the mechanical requirements as stipulated in the Regulators Specifications used by WRAS.
A simplified version of the four stage procedure to gain WRAS approval with WRc-NSF Ltd is explained below. 1. Pre-Application. 2. Application. 3. Testing. 4. Certification Stage 1 | Pre-Application | | Step 1. | You contact the WRc-NSF Project Management Team for advice and guidance on the WRAS approval process, their support in completing the Fittings (F2) Application Form and outline costs. | Stage 2 | Application | | Step 2. | You complete the Fittings (F2) Application Form and send the completed form to the WRc-NSF Project Management Team. | | Step 3. | On receipt of your completed Fittings (F2) Application Form, the designated WRc-NSF Project Manager will start the application process and will issue you with a unique Sample Number (which should be used in all subsequent correspondence) and an invoice for the Application Fee for GBP 350 (+VAT if applicable). Please note: this fee is subsequently deducted from our charges for testing when the product proceeds to testing in Stage 3. | | Step 4. | The Fittings (F2) Application Form is reviewed by the WRc-NSF Project Manager and Materials Testing Manager (if needed) to check the completeness and accuracy of the information you have provided. The Project Manager will liaise with you to ensure that we have sufficient information to proceed with the approval. If any non-metallic materials require testing to BS 6920 you will also be contacted with the necessary details. | | Step 5. | On completion of this review the WRc-NSF Project Manager will advise you about the number and type of samples needed for testing, timescales and confirm the testing fees for the next Stage. | | Step 6. | The WRc-NSF Project Manager will send you a formal request for the samples to be sent to WRc-NSF Ltd and sends an invoice for testing fees (the Application Fee you have already paid will be deducted). | Stage 3 | Testing | | Step 7. | You send the samples we request and payment for testing. | | Step 8. | The WRc-NSF’s Test House undertakes the required testing and you are advised on progress. | | Step 9. | On successful completion of the testing the WRc-NSF Project Manager will submit the completed WRAS Application Form and the Test Report with supporting information to WRAS for approval at its next Product Assessment Group (PAG) Meeting. | Stage 4 | Approval | | Step 10. | The WRAS Administration Team reviews the WRAS Application Form and Test Report submitted for your product and submits them, together with the sample(s) used for testing to its next PAG meeting. The WRAS PAG, which comprises a panel of UK Water Company Inspectors, meets approximately every 6 weeks to assess products that have been submitted for certification. | | Step 11. | The PAG meets to check that your product has been demonstrated to be compliant with UK Water Regulations. | | Step 12. | Following successful approval of your product at the PAG, WRAS will issue you with an Approval letter and a Certificate, and will list your product in the online Water Fittings and Materials Directory. |
Each step must be completed before the next step is started. Please do not send any sample of your product when you submit your F2 WRAS Application Form to the WRc-NSF Project Management Team. We will request the samples once we have checked your F2 WRAS Application Form and determined what testing is required. For further information contact the WRC-NSF Project Management Team.
